HTTP Hypertext Transfer Protocol
A protocol for transferring documents over the World Wide Web. A web browser requests a page from a Web Server, such as Apache. This page is then sent back to the browser, by the web server, using HTTP. The page can contain text, images, audio and other types of media. Hypertext refers to documents which have links embedded in them to allow movement from one page to another.
